Star Wars Galactic Racer split screen: confirmed status

Full-screen racing viewport in IGN’s Galactic Racer review as the narrator discusses the absence of split-screen
IGN, 11:21: the review explicitly discusses missing split-screen. The frame alone does not prove feature absence; the developer FAQ supplies the direct answer.

The developer’s stated reason

Traxion’s August interview reports that Fuse Games chose to prioritize frame rate, visual fidelity and immersion. Its account says the team regarded the compromises for local split-screen as beyond the experience it wanted to build. The article also reports that split-screen was not part of the development plan from the outset.

This is an attributed design explanation, not a measured hardware limitation. The sources do not provide a benchmark showing how two viewports would perform on each console or PC. They also do not demonstrate that lowering a graphics setting would activate a hidden split-screen mode.

Why online multiplayer does not add split screen

Split-screen would show separate player views on one display; crossplay connects online participants on different platforms. The developer FAQ confirms PC-to-console crossplay and says it is enabled by default. Those are different features, so the presence of one should not be taken as evidence for the other.

Online speeder races support up to twelve racers and podraces up to eight. The launch party size is up to three, with an increase to six described as a future update plan. None of those counts is a local split-screen player limit.

Choose an available way to play

For online competition, choose from Quick Race, Multiplayer Tour, Quick Podrace and Podracer Tour. The multiplayer page explains their vehicle groups, matchmaking and party boundaries. It does not promise private matches or an invitation flow that the supplied sources have not demonstrated.

For offline solo play, the FAQ lists Campaign, Arcade events and Scenarios. PC first-launch authentication still requires a connection, and connected leaderboards are separate from offline events. Taking turns at a solo session is possible as a shared activity, but it should not be called two-player split-screen.

Before buying for couch racing

If shared-screen simultaneous racing is a requirement, the developer FAQ gives a clear reason to choose another arrangement. Split-screen is unsupported in the supplied release FAQ, and the reviews agree on that feature status. A video containing one full-screen race is only an illustration of the game. The negative feature conclusion comes from the explicit statement, not from counting viewports in a screenshot.

A multiplayer label on a store page can describe online racing without promising local split-screen. Likewise, the ability to play a campaign offline does not add another local racer. These are different capabilities and should be checked independently. The existing online mode names and player counts cannot be used as evidence for a couch mode.

An update would change this answer only when an applicable developer announcement or game interface establishes the feature. The supplied material does not contain a release date for adding it. Community requests and expectations are useful feedback but are not a roadmap commitment. No mod, additional controller setting or console menu is presented as a verified workaround.

Could an update change the answer?

The supplied materials do not announce a split-screen update or release date. Players in the community thread hope it will be added, but a hope is not a developer commitment. The planned party-size change concerns online groups and should not be repurposed as a local-mode announcement.

Platform exceptions, a supported split-screen mod and future patch behavior remain Not confirmed (待确认). This answer reflects the developer FAQ snapshot provided for this batch and the corroborating review, rather than a live inspection of every current client. Use the developer’s feature statements to reassess the answer if a later announcement specifically changes split-screen support.
